Coaches Jane Wyndham Smith and Ian Bowdtich, from Thames Paddle-boarding, ran two ‘moving water skills development’ sessions. Each session focused on how to read the water around weirs and practice effective paddling techniques on moving water.

The first session saw five club members attend on Monday 7 July.
The second session saw eight members attend on Monday 21 July.

For most people it was the first opportunity to experience the power and fast flowing water around weirs. The highly controlled environment allowed our paddlers to practice manoeuvring the boats and breaking in and out of the weirs tow back.
There was also opportunity to practice rescue skills from the base of the hydraulic stopper.
Note; No weirs are safe to play in. This training was conducted by experienced, professional coaches who know the area well and reviewed the conditions prior to beginning the exercises.
